Hiking is always a phenomenon in the West. Getting off from "Hohemark", the last stop of U3, here starts numerous hiking trails in Taunus Mountains, varing from 3km round tours to some 30km all the way to another town. On any Sunday afternoon before the winter sets in, Taunus is a perfect getaway from the slient mini-metropolis Frankfurt, where all stores are closed to frustrated shoppers like us.
Even though it was a wet autumn day, hiking in the balmy forest up in Taunus was still a pleasant experience. Most of the people we met on the trails were local residents carrying a basket to hunt mushrooms after the rainfall. What can be more fun than that?! Take a stroll with your beloved one or your beloved dog(although we were totally freaked out by a monstrous snarling black dog), while searching for various kinds of fresh and delicious mushrooms in the tree-lined mountainside...
We followed Keltenrundweg (Celts tour), a round tour of 4.3km on partially rocky grounds slightly going uphill, with the assistance of signs located on the forkings and information boards erected on each site of barely-recognizable Celtic remnants that date back to 2,000 B.C. It was probably the first settlement which resembled a large city in present day Rhein-Main region. Unfortunately, the original rusted bricks and mortars were all gone, leaving only shallow man-made valleys for archaeological imagination.
